Global Village Tithe

What is the tithe?
The US affiliate covenant defines the tithe as follows: Habitat for Humanity is a global partnership. In recognition of and commitment to that global partnership, each affiliate is expected to contribute at least 10% of its cash contributions to Habitat's international work. Funds specifically designated, by a donor, for local work only may be excluded from the tithe.
To which countries does Habitat for Humanity Orange County tithe?
Since 2003 we have tithed to the Northern Ireland, Romania, Mexico and Bangladesh affiliates.
How much money has the Orange County affiliate given? How many homes have we built?
On November 14, 2003, the Orange County affiliate received an award from Millard Fuller, co-founder of Habitat for Humanity International, for exceeding a half million dollars in tithe. We are the third Western Region affiliate to reach the $500,000 mark. This means that through our tithe we have provided funding to construct about 125 home in other parts of the world. For each home we have built in Orange County (100 homes total) we build 1.25 homes in another country. We are making a difference more than one house at a time.
How are the countries chosen to receive our tithe?
The Global Village Committee researches prospective countries and provides a recommendation to the Board of Directors, who makes the final decision.
